Spicy Mashed Sweet Potatoes

Just when you didn't think sweet potatoes could be better - this recipe come along.  The tasty blend of spices incorporated add special touch.

  • Yields: 4 to 6 servings


4 large sweet potatoes

2 tablespoons pure maple syrup

2 tablespoons butter

1 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon chili powder

1 teaspoons cumin

1 teaspoon ground ginger


1Preheat oven to 350°F.

2Pierce sweet potato several times with a fork.

3Place on the oven rack and roast 45 minutes to 1 hour (until soft)

4Transfer to a cutting board and let stand for about 10 minutes (until cool enough to work with)

5Remove skins and cut the into 1-inch pieces.

6Place in a large bowl.

7Add butter.

8Smash the sweet potatoes with a potato masher until fluffy (some lumps will remain).

9Add maple syrup and remaining ingredients.

10Stir to combine.
